As a non-profit cooperative our purpose is to serve our Members, who rely on us to provide safe and reliable power. Our duty is to the communities we serve, and we remain committed to this purpose by working together with our Members.

Trico believes in teamwork and communication, and we believe that a diverse team drives innovation and helps us to improve. We are at an important stage in our growth and development, as changes in the industry, advances in technology, and changes in our Members’ needs shape the work we do today and in the future.

Trico's History
Our Humble Beginnings

Area farmers and ranchers organized Trico in 1945 under the Rural Electrification Act that was enacted to bring electricity to the rural areas of the United States. Three years later, Trico’s first electrical lines were energized.

A Certificate of Convenience and Necessity was issued by the Arizona Corporation Commission in 1966, which kickstarted Trico to serve the surrounding communities.

The 7 Cooperative Principles

Cooperatives are voluntary organizations open to all persons able to use their services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.

Voluntary & Open Membership

Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions. The elected representatives are accountable to the membership.

Democratic Member Control

Members contribute equitably to, and democratically control the capital of the cooperative. At least part of that capital is usually the common property of the cooperative.

Members' Economic Participation

Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members. If they enter into agreements with other organizations, they do so on terms that ensure democratic control by their members.

Autonomy & Independence

Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers and employees so that they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives.

Education & Training Info

Cooperatives serve their members most effectively and strengthen the cooperative movement by working together through local, national, regional and international structures.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives

While focusing on member needs, cooperatives work for the sustainable development of their communities through policies accepted by their members.
