Trico’s Energy Efficiency Loan Program helps eligible members make energy-saving home upgrades at an affordable low-interest rate utilizing on-bill financing.
The program can support improvements such as insulation, windows and doors, heating and cooling upgrades, panel improvements, solar readiness, battery storage, EV charger upgrades, and other efficiency measures designed to lower energy use and improve comfort.
Qualified members can access financing with simple repayment through their electric bill, making it easier to invest in long-term energy savings.
How it works
where to start?
First, Members apply for eligible energy-saving improvements. Trico reviews the request, including a complete credit check and Trico account verification. If approved, the project moves forward.
Once the project is complete, repayment will be conveniently included on the monthly electric bill at a low fixed interest rate.
Where to start:
- Confirm you meet the qualifications and choose an eligible project.
- Select a registered and licensed Arizona contractor for the project.
- Submit your application and required documentation, including contractor selection, for review.
- Trico evaluates the project, including a credit verification, and review of your Trico account history.
- After approval, the licensed contractor completes the installation or you provide proof of eligible equipment purchase, depending on the project type.
- The approved final invoice amount will be paid directly to your contractor upon satisfactory completion of the project.
- The approved loan amount is repaid through your monthly electric bill.
what is the energy efficiency loan program?
This program helps eligible members finance energy efficiency improvements through low-interest on-bill financing. It is designed to support cost-effective upgrades that can improve comfort, efficiency, and quality of life.
what type of projects may qualify?
Examples may include weatherization, insulation, doors, windows, duct sealing, panel upgrades, upgrades for EV chargers, upgrades for solar systems, energy storage, electric heat pumps, electric HVAC replacements, conversion from gas to electric, Energy Star rated appliances, pool pumps and heaters, and certain solar-related improvements.
who can apply?
Applicants must have an active Trico account, have authority to install improvements on the property, and have a good Trico payment history. Additional qualifications may apply for new members, members with deposits, and members requesting certain loan amounts.
what payment history is required?
Members must be in good standing, have no more than two late payments in the last 12 months, and have no Trico service disconnects due to nonpayment within the last three years. If a new member does not have a waived deposit, 12 months of billing history with no more than two late payments may be required.
will i need proof of income or complete a credit check?
Yes. Proof of income is required, and Social Security may qualify as a form of income. A satisfactory credit check and Trico account verification will be required. Members on payment assistance may still qualify with proof of income and a qualifying credit check.
what are the loan terms?
Loans are repaid on the member’s bill and carry an interest rate of 1.99%. Loan amounts up to $10,000 require a credit score in the 620 to 700 range. Loan amounts greater than $10,000 require a credit score of 701 or higher and a lien, with filing costs paid by the member.
how are the loan funds paid?
The loan amount is paid directly to the licensed contractor upon completion of project or installation of qualifying appliances and all program requirements have been met.
what documents will i need to provide?
Required documentation will include a legal property description, proof of income, proof of contractor license and bond, required permit/s, signed program agreements, a final invoice for completed services and installation, and receipts for appliances or equipment within 90 days of purchase.
do the improvements need to meet code requirements?
Yes. All work must comply with applicable federal, state, and local building and environmental codes, including any required permitting by the authority having jurisdiction.
is approval guaranteed?
No. Final approval depends on eligibility, payment history, income verification, satisfactory credit review, and submission of all required documentation.
