This application is for property owners interested in having new Trico facilities designed and constructed on vacant, undeveloped land.
This is not for existing homes that have already been built.
After we review your application, a New Service Technician will contact you requesting any additional required information, or will provide you with the Work Order number assigned to your request. The construction process may take six to twelve weeks from the time Trico receives the completed application. You can also track the status of your work order through SmartHub.

Residential Construction Timeline

Please provide:

- Legal Description of property (clearly mark property corners)
- Permit information
Trico work order number established. Project assigned to Trico Designer.
Notification email sent to Member (Designer assigned).

Sign and return cost agreement to Trico. Remit invoice payment for construction, if applicable.
Submit billing deposit or provide letter of credit.
If Easements are required, sign and return to Trico.
Work order is released to Trico's Construction department.
Notification email sent to Member (Ready to schedule).

Provide cost agreement and invoice for Trico material and labor to developer, if applicable. Depending on scope, some line extensions will be covered by line extension policy allowances.

residential service fees
- Line Extension Costs, all applicable fees, to be determined at a later date, shall be paid to the Cooperative, prior to construction. (See rule 203.D of Trico’s current Trico Rules Regulations Line Extension Policy (RRLEP).
- A Design Deposit may be required to prepare detailed line extension plans. Such advance will be applied to the final cost. (See rule 201.B of Trico’s current RRLEP).
- Billing Deposit or Letter of Credit from present electric company. (See rule 124 & 128 of Trico’s current RRLEP).
- $100.00 New Service Establishment Fee plus applicable taxes will be billed on your first bill (one time charge).
- $20.00 per month, Fixed Monthly Charge plus applicable taxes, in accordance with Trico’s Residential (RS1) Rate Tariff. (See rule 109, 139, & 140 of Trico’s current RRLEP).
Ballpark Estimator Tool
The Ballpark Cost tool is to be used as an approximation for construction estimates to new residential line extensions, excluding existing service upgrades and relocations. The estimate is calculated using standard assumptions and the distance provided and is NOT intended to determine the design, route, or how facilities will be installed on your property. The actual line extension design will be determined after a Trico Designer has met with you on-site.
For underground estimate purposes, the member is responsible for all trenching and backfill, conduit installation, and equipment basement/pad installation (See Residential Line Extension Guide).

Applicable fees
Some or all of these may be applicable, depending on your modification of service request:
- $50.00 Reconnect Fee will be billed on your next bill for any service that is disconnected and reconnected (non-refundable). (See rule 135 of Trico’s current RRLEP).
- A nonrefundable contribution advance may be required by the Applicant prior to Trico’s construction, for any new facilities and/or labor that Trico is required to provide due to your request.
- Design & Right of Way fee may be required to prepare detailed plans for large alteration or conversion projects. This paid fee will be applied to the final cost (See Rule 201.B of Trico’s RRLEP’s).

Before proceeding with a lighting application, please contact your local jurisdictional authority (i.e. County, Town, or City) for permitting requirements and fees, as this may provide you a clear direction on whether you wish to proceed.

What is the process for new electric service?
To set up power to your property, you will need to complete an application. This application is required for both residential and commercial services. After submission, a New Service Technician will review your application and assist you throughout the process of getting power to your property.

What are Trico's Electric Service requirements?

What's the process for underground/overhead to my home?
If you want to have the powerline installed to your home, the process will differ depending on whether you’re requesting a new service or an upgrade to an existing service.
- For New Service: You will need to complete an Individual Service Application. This application is required to request any new electrical service, including underground installations. Once your application is submitted, a Trico Designer will conduct a site visit to evaluate the installation requirements, including the best route for the power line and associated costs.
- For Existing Service (Upgrade): If you are upgrading an existing service, you will need to fill out an Upgrade Application. Similar to the new service process, a Trico Designer will schedule a site visit to assess the current setup and design solutions. This visit will help determine the feasibility and costs. - Meter Panel Specifications: The member is also responsible for installing a meter panel that meets Trico’s electric service requirements. Please refer to the Electric Service Requirements for detailed specifications on meter panel placement and installation.
What are underground member responsibilities?
Trenching: The Member must conduct a preconstruction meeting with a Trico Inspector prior to excavation. The Member is responsible for all excavation including trench line and device locations, and installing the conduit for the powerline extension after a Trico Designer has marked the trench route. The trench must meet the required depth and specifications as outlined in the Electric Service Requirements in section 6 (Underground Requirements).
what documents are required and what is a site plan?
To set up power at your property, you’ll need to provide the following documents for Trico Electric Cooperative:
- Completed Individual Service Application
- Copy of the property’s legal description
- Site plan (for property layout)
A site plan is a scaled drawing of your property that shows:
- Existing and proposed structures, property boundaries, septic systems, fences, driveways, etc.
- North arrow and dimensions
- Floodplain boundaries and erosion hazard setbacks (if applicable)

Are there fees associated?
Yes, there are fees associated with setting up electric service to your property. Fees vary depending on factors such as the design, distance from existing power lines, and specific service requirements of the line extension. After submitting your application, a Trico Designer will contact you for a site visit on your property and determine these costs. For more information, see the Applicable Fee information above.
What is the $100 New Service Establishment Fee?

The fee covers the establishment of service to a single new construction service connection. This includes internal processing and tasks required to establish the new service. The fee is non-refundable.
Will I need to hire an electrician?
Trico provides service up to the Point of Delivery; you will need an electrician to complete wiring and installation of facilities beyond that point. You will also be responsible for all excavation and backfilling, including providing and installing required conduit system. For more details, please see our Line Extension Policies and our Electric Service Requirements, section 6 (Underground Requirements) and section 7 (Single Family Service).
How much is service on raw land in the trico area?
Line extension costs vary and are based on the scope of the project and distance from your nearest source of power. You may calculate a basic estimate, based on distance and nearby equipment using our Ballpark Estimate Tool.
Can power lines be over an existing structure?
No, buildings shall not be constructed under or adjacent to power lines. For more details, please see our Electric Service Requirements, section 5 (Clearances).
Can power lines run over a pool, spa or hot tub?
No, lines shall not be above/below. This includes in-ground or above ground water features. For more details, including vertical and horizontal clearances, please see our Electric Service Requirements, section 5 (Clearances).
