La Cañada Drive Power Line Upgrade
Trico is upgrading a short section (about 0.12 miles) of existing overhead power line along La Cañada Drive, from structure SAH-88 to the intersection of La Cañada Drive and Via de Santo Tomas. Three utility poles will be replaced with stronger, self-supporting poles, and the wire will be upgraded to a larger conductor.
The Sahuarita Substation is approaching its capacity limit as the surrounding area grows. This short stretch of line is currently a bottleneck that limits how much power can reliably flow through the system.
Removing this bottleneck improves reliability for the whole surrounding circuit and helps ensure the Sahuarita Substation can keep up with growing demand without service interruptions.

Trico Road Power Line Rebuild and Upgade
Trico is rebuilding and upgrading about 2 miles of overhead power lines along the east side of Trico Road, from Marana Substation to El Camino de Tres Arroyos. The work includes adding a new third power circuit alongside the existing two.
Today, if there is an outage at a nearby substation, restoring power to some customers in this area requires complex, time-consuming manual switching. This project creates a more direct, dedicated backup path for power and prepares the area’s electric system for continued growth.
The benefit: Faster, simpler power restoration during outages, improved ability to share power between substations when needed, and increased capacity to support future growth in the Marana area.

El Toro Road Tie Line
Trico is installing about 0.8 miles of new underground power line along El Toro Road, between Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard and South La Cañada Drive. This new line will create a direct underground connection between the Sahuarita and Bicknell substations.
The Sahuarita area, including the Rancho Sahuarita community, continues to grow quickly with new homes, schools, and businesses. This growth is placing more demand on the existing power lines, which currently only feed the area from one direction. A second connection is needed so power can be shared between substations when needed.
This project will improve service reliability, allow power to be rerouted quickly if there is an outage at either substation, and support continued growth in the area for years to come.

I-19 Crossing
This project upgrades aging power lines in the Sahuarita Town Center area to improve electrical capacity and reliability. It replaces existing overhead infrastructure with a more robust double‑circuit 500 MCM system. A key component is converting the I‑19 crossing to underground construction to ensure long‑term system resilience.
