Electricity is something most of us depend on every day without giving it much thought—until the bill arrives or the power goes out. What many people may not realize is that the cost of electricity has remained remarkably affordable when compared to many other everyday expenses. Over the years, the prices of groceries, housing, vehicles, insurance, and other necessities have increased significantly. Meanwhile, Trico works diligently to control costs and maintain affordable rates for our Members.
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Trico operates differently than investor-owned utilities. Our focus is not on generating profits for shareholders. Instead, we exist to serve our Members. Any margins we generate are returned to Members over time through Membership Equity, while investments we make are designed to improve reliability, strengthen our system, and create long-term value for those we serve.
Keeping electricity affordable requires constant attention. Our team carefully manages expenses, plans for future energy needs, invests in infrastructure responsibly, and pursues technologies that improve efficiency. We also work closely with our power suppliers and industry partners to ensure we are delivering the best possible value without compromising reliability.
As your cooperative, we understand that every dollar matters. Reliability and affordability must go hand in hand. While no one wants higher costs, our Members also expect the lights to come on every time they flip a switch. Striking that balance requires thoughtful planning and long-term stewardship of the cooperative’s resources. It means making prudent investments today that help avoid larger costs tomorrow.
